“Crushing the Competition - Coalossal Vmax”

“Crushing the Competition - Coalossal Vmax”

With the release of Vivid Voltage, we’re seeing new concepts come out each and every day on PTCGO. It’s important to note that with online Pokemon tournaments occurring almost every single day of the week, the metagame is constantly evolving on a daily basis. You have to stay in the loop to consistently be able to be at the top of the standings! With the recent GGtoor.com Regional Championships that just occurred, we saw Mike Fouchet take it down with his consistent Mewtwo/Pikarom deck, besting a Baby Blacephalon in finals. Immediately, after looking at the standings, I saw Pikarom pretty much everywhere! The deck did so well, that I think it’s about time it has a hard counter to contend with; that’s when I thought to myself how strong Coalossal VMAX is in the current metagame. Being able to OHKO a Pikarom, an Eternatus, and other Pokemon for a single Fighting Energy is the type of speed we need in today’s format, and with all that tanky HP it’s able to avoid KOs from ADP decks. I fell in love with the concept immediately and just had to try it out for myself.

Top Five Shining Fates Cards

Top Five Shining Fates Cards

Shining Fates, the upcoming Pokemon TCG set, looks to bring a bunch of fan-favorite cards from recent sets into the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online when it releases later this month. Featured in the set are exciting new VMAX Pokemon cards, such as Crobat VMAX, and elusive Shiny Vault Pokemon, like GOLDEN Eternatus VMAX. With over 200 cards being added into our PTCGO metagame, this article will showcase some of my favorite cards from the set. If you are wondering about my qualifications to choose the best cards, that’s a completely fair question. I was able to win the Players Cup 2 Event and have over a decade of experience in the game. I also love to collect valuable cards online and I will make this article appealing to both players and collectors alike. Look below to see what cards I chose as my personal top five cards and why I think they are so great.

“Blazin Saddles” – A How to on Centiskorch with Silvally!

“Blazin Saddles” – A How to on Centiskorch with Silvally!

Centiskorch VMAX is a force to be reckoned with in the format, regardless of what your previous perceptions are regarding the card. Players such as Tate Whitesell, Kashvinder Singh, and Thomas Brophy who have been performing exceptionally online with it have sworn by this deck, and clearly, the results have been apparent as of late. Pedro Torres, one of the world’s best players in the recent era, has adopted a new version of the deck with an extra addition to help with certain matchups: Silvally-GX. Pedro and a few other players who knew about this archetype piloted it to multiple first places at online tournaments, and that’s the reason why we’re going to talk about it! Because purely enough, Centiskorch just isn’t being talked about enough at this time.

Fun TCG Decks on PTCGO

Fun TCG Decks on PTCGO

It might just be me, but do y’all like playing fun decks on PTCG Online? Like I know they might not be as good as Pikachu & Zekrom-GX (Team Up) or Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX (Cosmic Eclipse) decks, but they certainly are fun! I’m Zach Lesage, the recent Players Cup II Champion, and I’m here to showcase some of my favorite decks to play for fun! These decks typically aren’t the best competitive decks, but they usually have some kind of a gimmick that makes them a blast to play! Since some of these cards are hard to find trades for, you might need to open a bunch of packs. If that’s the case for you, you can use code zlesage5 to save 5% on your next order of codes at PTCGOStore.com. Let’s start splashing into these amazing decks!

“Shocking Discoveries” – Pikachu/Zekrom Tag Team Dominates the Online Scene!

“Shocking Discoveries” – Pikachu/Zekrom Tag Team Dominates the Online Scene!

Pikachu and ZekromTag Team GX (otherwise known as “Pikarom”) is just a deck that will never die - in a recent bout of events, this popular archetype has been piloted by Pokemon veterans from around the globe to high placements! As the first Tag Team to come out, it’s surprising that this deck has had such longevity over the course of time. Its recent resurgence is also unexpected due to the loss of Thunder Mountain Prism in the rotation, which was a key card Pikarom would use to obtain a Turn 1 Full Blitz attack. Now, with just Tapu Koko Prism to lean on, the deck is still managing to find new ways to tackle the format and beat down on meta decks.

“Dread End” – A Look at a Top Contender that Smashes Pikarom!

“Dread End” – A Look at a Top Contender that Smashes Pikarom!

Pikachu and Zekrom Tag Team GX (or ‘Pikarom’) is a deck that has been caught dominating the online tournament scene. It’s been piloted by some of the world’s best players, including but not limited to Daniel Altavilla (#1 Global CP Leader for 2020) and Azul GG (arguably one of the most consistent players of all-time). It gained traction as a surprise deck because most players thought it was a ‘dead’ deck post-rotation, however it recently has proved that it has the tools to take out top contenders. Today’s article is all about a deck that I believe has the power to dethrone Pikarom from being the best deck, and also has the ability to take out other threats in the format. That deck just so happens to be a big fan favourite, Eternatus VMAX!

“The Deep End” – Wailord V Takes Over!

“The Deep End” – Wailord V Takes Over!

When players initially say the new Pokemon TCG Online Expansion, Champion’s Path first release, they took one look at the set and passed it off as “mediocre at best”. Alcremie VMAX was a card that stole the show for many players, however with a Weakness to Metal-type Pokemon, and Zacian V getting a cosign from many seasoned pros online, this creampuff Pokemon doesn’t seem fit for the current metagame. I decided to poke a little deeper and look at a few more Pokemon from the set. Skimming through the Colourless-type Pokemon, Altaria seemed like a very strong card, namely being able to take care of popular V and GX Pokemon. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a way for Altaria to take on 1-Prize Pokemon such as Blacephalon UNB, or Decidueye DAB. After gathering some PTCGO codes, doing some trades, and getting all of my cards for Wailord V, I’m pleased to say that I think we’ve found a clear winner from the set. Let’s take a deeper dive into one of the coolest card from the newest Pokemon TCGO Expansion, Wailord V!

From Standard to Expanded format

From Standard to Expanded format

“My Tapu Lele-GX (Guardians Rising) will nab me an Acerola (Burning Shadows) to win me the game!” Wait, what?!?!?! Aren’t those cards rotated out of our Standard format Zach? Well, the answer is yes, but it should be noted that the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online has a few formats, but Standard and Expanded are the most notable. While Standard plays with some of the most recent cards in the Pokémon TCG, Expanded “expands” that collection to include cards all the way back to Black and White! It might be daunting to think about playing with a pool of cards over the past decade, but it gets significantly easier when you realize that most decks are similar in both Standard and Expanded due to the power creep of the game. What I’m essentially saying is that newer Pokémon are typically overpowered compared to cards released a few years ago and Expanded usually only adds support Pokémon and amazing Trainer cards to top Standard decks. There are obviously some exceptions to that rule, but our current Expanded format is dominated by Coalossal VMAX (Vivid Voltage), Pikachu & Zekrom-GX (Team Up), and Zacian V decks (Sword and Shield). The goal here is to give you the necessary tools to carefully jump into the exciting Expandedformat and enjoy more of Pokémon TCGO. Let’s start by going over some format staples.

Updating PikaRom and Centiskorch

Sometimes when a new set on PTCGO releases, it brings new Pokemon decks, and sometimes it brings new cards to existing concepts.
